STYLE

  • Tip 1 - Create a focal point

    • Have a piece of furniture you want to highlight with your living room rugs? Layering rugs is a perfect way to draw the eye to a feature to make it stand out. A rug on top of a rug allows you to know where you’re supposed to be looking when you walk into a room, especially if you’re using contrasting colors and patterns.

  • Tip 2 - Consider sizing

    • When it comes to finding a piece that flows with the rest of your design, it's important to pay attention to sizing, especially if you're layering! Although we don't layer rugs in every project, there are times when we fall in love with a vintage rug that is just a bit too small, and layering can be the perfect solution! Make sure your rug is large enough so it’s visible beneath furnishings; if it’s not – angle it so you can see it.

  • Tip 3 - Mixing patterns

    • Don’t be afraid to go for boldly patterned rugs.  If you have a small space, embrace pattern and fill your floor with print by layering rugs – this works well for small rooms where you can utilize the power of pattern. Pattern also works wonderfully in larger rooms; if you have a big floor space, layer multiple rugs at angles, overlapping them to create a warm and lived-in look. Stick with only one of the rugs having a bold pattern, keep the other neutral and simple to the overall look isn’t too busy.

  • Tip 4 - Stability

    • When layering rugs, make sure you consider the furniture going on top of them! We suggest trying to keep at least two of your four furniture legs on top of your layered rugs to avoid stability issues.

  • Tip 5 - Doormat layering

    • First impressions are important, right? And one of the quickest and easiest ways to win over anyone who comes knockin’ is through a few well-placed doormats. Yes, we said a few. Layering your doormats is such a fun way to elevate your porch look, and we love doing this with expressive welcome mats and simple textured jute mats or patterned indoor/outdoor mats.
